Arianne plays sweet piano music

by Susan Palmes-Dennis

My nine year old granddaughter Arianne Jaden Palmes Baisas performed her piano recitals at SM Uptown Cagayan de Oro last December 16.

Dressed in green with a black shawl, Arianne played such pieces as “Brother John”, “CafĂ© Vienna” and “Lavenders Blue” before a crowd of 100 guests that also drew the attention of a thousand mallgoers who stopped to listen to her performance.

Arianne is a student of the Clazzitals Music Studio located at Xavier Square Masterson Avenue in Upper Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City.

She had her first piano lesson in June last year and she has lessons thrice a week. She is quite enthusiastic and focused and she's a quick study. She has the potential to be a great pianist and her awesome mom has a lot to do with it, encouraging her to practice diligently.

At a young age Arianne can already read notes and she has a very good memory. Playing the piano seems to be in her soul as her dad Edgar Baisas is a good piano player along with her uncles.

But in our family, it is Arianne's great grandfather Simeon who was the born musician. In his lifetime Simeon, my father, tried to play all musical instruments  at his best.

My father can play the piano notes but he didn't pursue it likely because it was expensive. But he did play the banjo, guitar, ukelele and other stringed instruments.

At the ancestral Baisas house in Sampaloc, Manila the piano occupied the living room, its presence an open invitation to visitors interested to play it.

Over the days I am sure Arianne would fine tune her pieces to perfection and maybe play my favorite song “Somewhere in Time.”

It is indeed recital season; Arianne's next recital is in May this year and hopefully it can be moved to the third week of June so I can attend it in person. But it doesn’t matter what month it's held since deep in my heart I know she would excel.
